The short answer

The life line curves around the base of your thumb. In palmistry it is read for your energy, your pace and big changes in daily life. A short or broken life line does not mean a short life.

Where is the life line?

Find the space between your thumb and first finger. The life line starts there and curves down around the soft pad at the base of the thumb, toward the wrist.

It often starts joined to the head line for a short stretch. Where they separate is read as the point where you started making your own decisions.

Does a short life line mean a short life?

No. This is the most common worry, and most palmists today don't read it that way. The life line is read for energy and changes in routine, not for how many years you have.

Many people with short life lines live long lives. Lifespan depends on health, care and luck, not on a crease in your palm.

Broken life line meaning

A break in the life line is read as a big change in daily life: a new city, a new home, a new job or a new routine.

If the two ends overlap, the change is read as smooth, with the new life starting before the old one ends. A small square over a break is traditionally read as protection during the change.

Double life line and other marks

A second, thinner line running inside the life line is sometimes called a sister line or Mars line. It is read as extra energy or steady support from family or friends.

A wide curve that reaches into the palm is read as lots of energy and liking to stay busy. A line that stays close to the thumb is read as someone who saves energy and needs proper rest.

What the life line can't tell you

Palmistry is a tradition, not a scientific test of character or the future.

It can't predict illness, accidents or when anyone will die. Nothing in palmistry can, and a reading that says so should not be trusted.

Use it as a way to think about your pace and your routine. In our readings it is read with your kundli, which shows timing that the hand can't.

Frequently asked questions

Can the life line change?

Main lines change slowly, if at all. Small lines near them can change over a few years as your routine changes.

My life line is faint. Is that bad?

No. A faint line is read as someone who goes by their own pace and doesn't like being pushed.

Which hand's life line should I read?

Your dominant hand, the one you use for writing.
